You know that noise a kid makes when they are kinda scared, but sorta faking it, and they actually want to do the scary thing – but they are freaking out a little bit?

Yeah, that one.

You’re watching them in their awkwardness and their fear and their desire and you say things like:

And they sort of let go with their hands, but their foot gets hung up on the hand rail, their shoe squeaks them to a sort of slow glide, and their face continues to look awkward until they are stopped at the bottom where you can see they are like… “That was awkward, but I kinda liked it.”

That is NOT going all in.

That is negotiating all the way down.

Not committing.

Not giving yourself a chance.

That is hesitation.  Stealing joy and momentum since 1972!

Why do we do that?!  Why do we get all awkward and clunky when we are about to go big?  Make our dreams a reality?  Have some FUN and make some CHANGES?

What is up with that?

It’s fear.  Fear of a feeling.

Fear of:

Where are you making that weird noise and grimacing with the face of someone awkwardly hesitating?  What is the feeling you are afraid of feeling?

I know where I’m doing it!  I’ll share more next week – but it has to do with staying at goal weight and hesitating to do what I know works to keep me there (hint: it is everything that got me there!)  What am I afraid of feeling?  Vulnerability.  I have to be willing to be vulnerable to walk in the world without the buffer of food and extra weight to protect me.

I invite you to stop hesitating and go all in.  I know you may not be practiced at it.  I know you may not be comfortable – but I’m pretty sure the discomfort of creating your life is far more fun and rewarding than the discomfort of staying the same.

Stay uncomfortable,

Caryn
