To know me is to know I love planning.

I like to think out into the future, camp there, get all up in it’s grill and talk details. I like to make commitments so I can get to the planning stage, the “fun part.”

You’ve been around here awhile (or you just got here this week, in which case, welcome!) so you know my favorite tool: Decisions Ahead of Time. I love it. LOVE IT!

I also resist it. I, the super planner, do not always REMEMBER to plan my tomorrow. I wake up in the morning and do my usual bulletproof coffee, self coaching, and readying for the day and realize – dang it! I forgot to plan yesterday what I’d eat today. So, in that moment I plan tomorrow – and wonder about my system for this…

Do I need to plan a better planning system?!

Yes and no.

Yes, knowing the when and where and how of doing the planning of tomorrow is important.

No, making some new fangled system with corresponding journal and fancy new pens and stickers not required. Don’t lose the point. Encourage the ease.

(to the) Drawing board:
It has to be something I do daily so I remember it.
There has to be a cue to do it.
It has to be built in to something else that is already automatic so I can easily add this tiny 29 second task to it…

Ooh, I’ve got it.

See that part up there where I drink coffee? I do that every day. It’s a practice, I add the grass-fed butter, I add the coconut oil, I pour the coffee… My hands are busy and my mind is free, and fresh, and in a really good place to spend a half a minute planning my tomorrow.

I used to plan to do this in those last few minutes before sleep. It was a good idea, but it hasn’t been working for me because I haven’t been doing it. My bedtime has less ritual than my morning time, that is what will help me support this.

Where are you at with planning your tomorrow, today? I’d love to hear it, share in the comments below.
